Description

Centrelink can provide statistical reports on its customer groups on request. Reports are prepared by the Information Management Branch and include information on a range of benefit and pension types such as Newstart Allowance, Youth Allowance, Carer Allowance, Age Pension, Carer Payment, Disability Support Pension and Parenting Payment (Single and Partnered). The information represents 'point in time' data, meaning that figures reflect the numbers of benefit and pension recipients at the particular time they were retrieved.

Quality and Applicability

All information is provided with a confidentiality provision that displays values of less than 20 (including zero) as '< 20'.

Information about benefits and pensions are useful for building a picture of socio-economic disadvantage in a given area. Benefits and pensions data can be used in conjunction with other information to gain a picture of disadvantage, such as the Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage and unemployment rate.

All requests are subject to the provisions of the Privacy Act 1988 and may require clearance from the policy department of Centrelink before reports can be prepared.
